If you are looking for one of the most efficient ways to heat your home and with the right system have plenty of hot water all winter long then you might want to take another look at domestic oil fired boilers.

Oil fired boilers have been used for many years for both domestic and commercial heating and while many people think that it is one of the more expensive forms of heat, in all reality if you have a modern boiler system it may cost you less to heat your home than you have been led to believe.

Today there are many different types of oil fired burners for use in heating your home and while all of them must be vented to the outside via a flue, most of them can be safely tucked away out of site.

Overall efficiency ratings are better with most domestic oil fired boilers than at any time in history, meaning that as long as the rest of your house is properly insulated you can heat it for less than many other forms of heating.

The Different Types of Boilers

There are four basic types of domestic oil fired boilers in use today including the standard system boiler which uses an expansion tank that is built into the boiler instead of one in your loft as the older systems used. This helps improve the systems overall efficiency by keeping the hot water within a much smaller closed system.

Oil fired combi boilers are among the most popular forms of oil fired boiler systems as not only do they provide plenty of heat all winter long, but they give you a plentiful supply of hot water on demand. This means that during the colder weather you are able to turn off you regular hot water cylinder and still enjoy all the hot water you need.

One of the latest entries into the market is the condensing boiler, these units have been made to be super efficient and use far less fuel than any other type of oil fired boiler. They do this by using the heat generated in the combustion chamber and heating a condenser in the flue. The hot gases that would normally have gone up the flue as wasted heat are converted to water vapor and the heat is transferred from the condenser to the water in your heating system.

Lastly there are hearth boilers, which have a simulated fire in the front of them that is generated by electricity. Behind the fake, but very cheerful fire is an integrated oil fired boiler that will provide plenty of heat for the whole room ate far less cost than many solid fuel or LPG boilers.

Is Oil Cost Effective?

Many of the older oil fueled boiler systems had their problems and because they were built in a time when heating oil was very inexpensive, they gave oil fired heating a bad reputation as being a very expensive way to heat a home. Modern oil fired boiler efficiency has been vastly improved with the introduction of many improvements, and types of system such as the condensing boiler.

As heating oil prices have continued to climb new domestic oil fired boilers are constantly being designed that are more fuel efficient than their predecessors. Heating your home with a new oil fired boiler central heating system can save you hundreds of pounds every year and if you install a combination system provide you and your family with plenty of hot water all winter long. There has never been a better time to switch back to an oil fired central heating system.
