 Oil Fired Condensing Boilers

Recently there has been a movement towards finding a more efficient boiler system for domestic heating and homes all across the US are turning to oil fired condensing boilers as they are rated among the most efficient forms of heating available.

Reports show that overall condensing boiler efficiency ratings are an average of more than 30% higher than that of the standard oil fired boilers currently in use in many homes.

This efficiency is achieved by using the heat formed in the flue chamber to create heat in a condensing unit that adds to that already created in the boiler itself.

How they Work

When you use a standard oil fired boiler to heat the water that is used in your central heating system a lot of the heat that is generated in the burner chamber ends up going up the flue and out into the atmosphere. Oil fired condensing boilers see this waste as very useful by product that can be used to boost efficiency and reduce overall fuel consumption. A condenser is placed in the exhaust area of the boiler so that it can capture the heat from the waste gases caused by the burning oil and transfer it to the water in your system.

This system produces two exceptional benefits, first since the waste gases are being used to heat the water instead of vanishing up the flue they help to keep your fuel consumption down. As the gases cool they form water vapor, which is much less damaging to the environment. Using less fuel and emitting less waste gasses into the atmosphere helps to reduce your carbon footprint and if you add in good double or triple glazed windows and extra insulation in your walls and roof you could save a bundle on your winter heating bill.

Taking it One Step Beyond

If being able to cut your carbon footprint and your winter heating bill is not enough to convince you to buy one of the new oil fired condensing boilers, perhaps the ability to have a virtually endless supply of hot water on hand at any hour of the day will do the trick. If you buy and install one of the new condensing combi boilers you can have the best of both worlds and save more money than you might have thought possible on your bills.

While these combination units may cost a little more at the outset, the amount of money you will save on your heating and hot water bill will more than offset the extra money you will have to pay out to have one installed. When your boiler is on to heat the house, you automatically have hot water at your faucets that you can draw on whether you are doing the washing up or taking a nice long shower. If the boiler is off and you want to take a shower, the boiler comes on as soon as turn on the hot water and it acts just like an on demand hot water heater.

This means that you can turn off or get rid of your current hot water heater as you will never need it again, not even in the summer. When you have the heat turned off in the summer weather, you can still use the condensing combi boiler as an on demand hot water heater that uses full mains water pressure to give you a hot, powerful shower or fill up the sink with hot water. Since it is an on demand type heater you do not need to have a hot water holding tank so the amount of wasted energy is severely restricted. The combi boiler has become one of the most energy efficient ways of providing your home with heat and hot water currently on the market.
